You know that magical feeling when you want really, really want something that seems impossible, but it actually happens and you just want to twirl around and kiss they sky?
Or, if it’s not exactly what you want, it’s at least a wink from God that your dream is on its way or perhaps unfolding this very minute.
I live for those unexpected magical moments.
It started out as an ordinary domestic flight on my way to my hometown for vacation.
Then, I noticed something familiar, yet
rare unheard of on a plane in America. Do you see what I see?
ITALIAN. ON AN AMERICAN PLANE. Whaaaaaat???
I first noticed it in the lavatory when I saw the foreign instructions and warnings alongside English, and thought, wait, “spingere” is most definitely not Spanish!
It felt like a sign meant just for me. Improving my Italian and visiting Italy again have been my heart’s greatest desires these past three years. And then, when and where I least expected it, the Universe urged me to
keep dreaming start living that dream.
If that wasn’t enough to make my soul sparkle a little brighter, I was flipping through the Duty Free magazine and came across an advertisement for Si, a perfume by Giorgo Armani:
I love the simplicity and power of these words. There’s even a gorgeous commercial in Italian starring Cate Blanchett.
Lucky Cate is in another super chic commercial filmed on the Italian Riviera for the IWC Portofino watch collection. After watching this I’m ready to pack my bags and move to Portofino. That espresso. That sea. Italy…my dream.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about dreams and what it takes to say YES to your dreams. Do we make them happen, or do they happen to us?
I have done a lot of praying, wishing, and believing but have nothing to show for my dreams. That’s the safe and comfortable part of dreaming. When a dream is just an idea, it’s perfect. I think that’s why a lot of people (ahem, moi) keep dreams wrapped up on a shelf. We’re afraid to break them. Or, if we really look inside maybe it won’t be as wonderful as we thought.
But not to take a peak at our dreams and try them on for size? That’s the greatest disappointment of all.
Whenever I hear the story of someone who has achieved great things even the struggle sounds glorious. When we’re actually in the midst of struggle before the fruition of a dream, it’s just plain uncomfortable. Trying something new is awkward, risky, and time-consuming.
Take for instance my blog. It’s a place to record all of the things I LOVE, like writing, photography, learning Italian, trying new recipes, and traveling. I’ve read blogs for years and have always wanted to be part of that community. But when you click “publish” it’s like being naked in front of a bunch of strangers. ANYONE can take a peak at the thoughts inside your head. It’s both thrilling and terrifying. That’s the feeling of dreams coming true.
