Italian at heart: where culinary passion meets language learning
We believe that everything should be done with passion, from cooking to language learning.
Learning a language can be as enjoyable as a plate of spaghetti and as fun as drinking a glass of wine!
Our learning philosophy
If you’ve always wanted to improve your Italian (or English), but dread the idea of stepping into another classroom, you don’t have to!
We’re all about learning through:
- Hands on experiences in the kitchen
- Culinary adventures in Italy & the US
- Wine & cheese tastings
- Lively chats about life over coffee or a glass of wine
- Chatting about movies, music, and books
All from the comfort of your own home and an internet connection! Unless of course you want to step out for the occasional culinary adventure!

Our recipe philosophy
Our recipes stay true to the heart of Italian cooking:
- Fresh, simple, complimentary ingredients
- From scratch whenever possible
- The highest quality ingredients available
- True to tradition
Our recipes are primarily traditional Italian or our own Italian inspired creations, with the occasional from scratch version of American recipes.
We’re Kelly & Alberto, and this idea of culinary inspired language learning started with a pizza recipe. Actually, it probably started long before then.
Back in 2000, Alberto studied abroad in California as a junior in high school. He discovered cheerleaders there, so he never wanted to return to Italy (his mother, however, wanted him to return immediately!)
At the same time, Kelly was a cheerleader in Nevada…just a state away. But they didn’t meet.
Then in 2005, Kelly studied Italian at the Universita’ degli Studi di Torino. She realized that what Americans call “Italian” food isn’t Italian at all….and she wanted to stay in this food haven forever.
Meanwhile, Alberto was studying at the Universita’ degli Studi di Padova. They still didn’t meet.
Fast forward 10 years later. Kelly and Alberto were craving a bit of their past experiences abroad, especially speaking the language with a native. And so they finally met.
They bonded over a love of cooking (and eating, let’s be honest!) and so they decided to help each other improve their languages through recipes…and Italian at Heart was born. (Well, that’s the short story anyway!)
We’re the perfect combination because Alberto brings the culinary expertise, while Kelly has a teaching background. We will show you how to make delicious authentic Italian food while learning Italian!
